JOPLIN, Mo., (October 21, 2011) - ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition recently began building homes for seven families who lost theirs to the tornado that devastated the city of Joplin, Mo., on May 22. In what producers say is one of the largest projects ever undertaken by the reality show, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition - along with hundreds of volunteers—aims to build the seven houses in just seven days. The Joplin build celebrates Extreme Makeover: Home Edition's 200th episode and will air on Jan. 20 on ABC.
Each of the seven homes is designed to reflect a different American architectural style. From the Nevins family's hip, urban, eco-friendly cottage to the Nguyen family's traditional Arts & Crafts-style home, all will feature KraftMaid cabinets in different door styles and finishes to complement the home.

Local companies including Springfield, Mo.-based Cabinetry Showcase by Ed Hines Company, a KraftMaid dealer partner, contributed to the project.

- Donated more than 14,000 cabinets; an average of 1,600 cabinets per season.
- Installed nearly 22,000 hardware knobs, pulls and handles.
- Extreme Makeover: Home Edition designers have selected 110 different KraftMaid door styles.
- The most popular wood species used in the homes are maple and cherry.
- Ranging from light to dark, there have been more than 90 different KraftMaid finishes featured in the homes. The finishes selected most often are Dove White, Natural, Kaffe and Peppercorn.
- Per episode, it takes more than 200 KraftMaid employees to manufacture and deliver the cabinetry to each home site.
